Error Message on Falcon Jr.

In the middle of a print my printer stopped printing and all of the lights on the control panel started flashing as well as beeping. The screen had this error code on it, "E074 ERR Y Current". It has done this twice before, over a year ago. At that time SignWarehouse couldn't tell me what it ment. I was able to power the printer down and turn it back on and everything was fine. This time when I turn the printer back on it goes right back to the error. Does anyone know what this error means?

Thanks
Stuart

Not yet. I did find that was suggested when I did a google search for the error. After looking at the printer again I noticed that the head was not positioned over the capping station so I pushed it to the parked position and turned the printer back on. Everything come up like normal. I have not tried printing yet. I think I will clean the encoder strip in the morning. Thanks for the suggesting.

"E074 ERR Y Current" means that something has overloaded the Y-Axis current... Clean Encoder Strip, Ensure that nothing touched/touches the Head Carriage Assy while it is moving from one side to the other, check the Y Motor, may need to be replaced... Pretty simple stuff to analyze...

I had this problem in the past with my Falcon. Don't remember if it was the encoder strip (cleaning) or when the metal pulley on the Y-Axis motor came loose. Either way it's an easy fix. Before ordering a new motor take the right side cover off. While paying close attention the the shaft of the motor and the pulley, slowly move the head carriage left and right. Is the pulley and motor turning at what seems to be simultaneously? If not, the pulley has popped loose and that's most likely your problem. It's only pressure fitted on there. Poor design in my opinion, should have set screws and a flat motor shaft.

To fix the loose pulley - remove the other side cover.
1) Mark the motor shaft at the top and bottom of the pulley with a permanent marker.
2) Note how much tension is on the metal strip that moves the head.
3) Counting turns - equally loosen the tension on the metal strip - if you don't see where to loosen it you probably shouldn't be doing this. Only loosen it enough to get the motor out. Keep track of how many and they should both be the same.
4) Using permanent thread sealer and the marks you placed on the shaft earlier. Drop a few drops of thread sealer on the motor shaft. Slide the pulley down on the shaft and align with your marks. Now, let the assembly sit overnight.
5) Reinstall the motor.
6) Tighten the strap. Using the same number of turns to loosen the metal strap. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE STRAP, YOU CAN DAMAGE IT.
7) SLOWLY move the head carriage left and right to the full extent of movement while watching the two end pulleys. If you didn't tighten the metal band evenly it will walk off the pulleys. Adjust as necessary.
8) Reassemble the rest of the printer and you should be up and running.
