Did you try freezing it first? I thought it was a joke, and once on an internal HD, it came back long enough to pull a few files off. I don't get what it does, but it really worked...once. Once it also didn't. Not sure if you can even do that for externals...

Had customer back in '91 That was CHEAP his Hd if ever turned he brought it in we bang on it & it run sometimes they get a grease lookin stuff that locks the head down & a good bang will set um free till turned off And cools that crud

That is one thing I have learned is to have at least 3 backups. Never know what could happen. I have 2 external hd and also have my data backed up to mediamax.com. Living in florida you never know what could happen.

Well, I _was_ going to suggest freezing it.

Because that has worked for me. But I guess it's probably too late now.

My wife backs up our whole Quickbooks database to a USB jumpdrive.
Were a Mac shop and our PC accountant can even use it to update our account.
