Family issues

Boy I am so pissed at my wifes cousin. I've been in buisness going on seven years. I had some medical issue 10 years ago that had me looking in to a new career When a family friend that owned a signshop offered to teach me the buisness in a couple of years I was doing pretty good at it and open for buisness myself. Heres my problem, my wifes cousin behind my back buys a cutter and I find out the other day is doing work for cash in the area we live in. I so bad want to bloody his face. My wife and her family act like it no big deal cause he always trying **** and don't stick with it. ***** you have a fulltime job on the railroad why do you need to take money from my family. Thanks for letting me vent my issues. Andy

Well there is nothing like venting and getting it off your chest.
With that being said, you should get prepared to be pissed at all of the other sign shops that surround you.
If he is not steeling your clientele list or getting your prices and purposely undercutting you to get a job you shouldn't be upset that he is a relative.
You should look at it as a opportunity. mentioned to him any jobs that he can't handle you would love to help.
And you can mention if you get overwhelmed you could send some his way.
I have a couple of family members and friends that are in the business you just have to make it work for yourself.
I hope you feel better if anything go kick a imaginary trash can.

Ummm, it's no big deal...

If a newbie with a cutter is a threat, time to step up your skills.

It would p!ss me off too.
But I would just keep keeping on.
He will eventually move on to something else, and sell his stuff, hopefully not to someone too close.
Some "customers" don't care about design or quality, they just want cheap.
These two types of people create their own little sign hamster wheel of hell.

PS
I was at a local concert a few years back, minding my own beeswax, when a satellite friend of the family cornered me asking all about Corel and plotters. I technobabbled her into silence and she just zoned out. I do think she has a CriCut, but she can't even spell.

Good advice from those above.
Just be glad it's not your wife.
It's really hard to share a bed with someone trying to undercut your business with a stealth plotter on the side......

rat him out to the IRS as I bet he doesn't claim the work for cash money he is getting. once he goes off to prison, offer to buy his equipment.

Wow, it sounds like there's a story behind this.
It like a bad soap opera. While the plotter cuts. Tune in next time when?

Well, I hope your rant has helped you in some small way, cause I don't see a problem with what he did..... at all.

Behind your back ?? How do you figure that ??

He might've seen how you did it, how easy it is and decided to do the same thing without any coaching upfront. It happens all the time, at least he's your relation and you have an excuse to keep tabs on him.
