Farewell to a Great Companion

Alicia and I had the unfortunate task of having to put to rest a wonderful companion of 12 yrs this evening. She was a part of everything from helping "train" the horses, bringing them in from the fields for feed and going on hikes.

It never seems long enough to enjoy their company.

It's tough no matter if it's human or animals.

I feel for ya.
You're the 3rd person in a week. First a horse, a dog and now another dog.

Thoughts are on their way..............

Thanks everyone. We appreciate it.

Lucky dog to have been loved that much...

My condolences...

I like to think that she was. When we were visiting my grandmother down in South Texas, she was coming back from town and she noticed someone dumping something on the side of the road. When she got there, that's who she found. Never could understand why people do that, but at least that time it came out for the better.

Our thoughts are with you. We've lost two in the past six months.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's never easy and losing two that close together.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

'There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.'

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

Having lost what I consider more than my fair share of dogs, cats, and horses**, and remembering each and every one of them most every day, every time I encounter that bit of Rainbow Bridge utter nonsense I picture a vast field of ostriches with heads firmly planted in the sand.

Just cherish them when they are with us and remember them when they are not. Hoist an occasional glass to their gallant souls. Any more than that verges on disgusting.

**Losing a favorite horse is far more intense than losing a puppy dog or kitty cat. With a horse you put you life in its hands each and every time you deal with it and it [usually] does not abuse that trust. The same cannot be said for most other commonly kept animals.

From what I see in the pics, this dog had a great life and you made it's stay on this earth very enjoyable and gave her a job as well. Job well done and my condolences to you and your family. I have put 2 dogs down and cry like a baby each time...they are such great friends.
