Fence Contractor UV Material

I had a fence installer in town come in and need 75 signs to put up on fences that they install. I was hoping to possibly sub these out to someone (if I can figure out what materials work best) but what he brought me was a piece of Sintra/PVC. He said he'd had some yellow ones that my grandpa made (previous owner) 25+ years ago that were still yellow, but appeared to be the same material.

These are 6" X 9" now, but that is negotiable. Anyone know who I can get this material from and either apply my own vinyl, or have print these? It just needs to last and be UV resistant. I told him if we had to, it may be an aluminum deal. The main issue they have is the PVC expanding and contracting, and then the wind hits it in the cold, and it shatters.

Just realized I could order these from stouse. Polyetheylene Signs, anyone ordered these from them? They say they won't shatter...probably cause it's such thin material in comparison. This one the customer brought in is 1/8".

Polyethylene will also break down under UV light over time. If he plans on using these for 25 years, there are really no suitable polymers.

Then again, if he can't afford the price of aluminum signs, you could just run Sintra and tell him to expect to have to re-do them in ten years' time or so...

They're coming out to like $3 each from Stouse retail price...I don't think it's worth messing with what an aluminum cost would be for something like that.

If he still had them, that means he hasn't used them yet, so of course they'd still be yellow. If something never sees the light of day.... I don't think they'll fade.

Ask him how many he uses in a years time since he only want 75 and expects the to last 25 years ??

Most of the guys around here will put 20 or 25 up on one fence job alone. Maybe more. We generally make them out of .40 aluminum. Most of the time, they'll order like 1,000 at a time. For the most part, we'll screen them, unless they want 'em cheap, then we'll flatbed print them.

He says it was INSTALLED for 25 years. That's why I can't figure it out. I asked him if it was shaded a lot or something, and he said no. He said he had faded some, but I know most PVC fades to almost white within like 4 years, so I don't know. You interested in pricing me aluminum that's 6" X 9" Gino? If so, shoot me a PM. I don't know what route he'll want to go.

We have done this exact same things for a local fence company. I believe we did the polystyrene route. They were set up for temporary car dealer license plates. super cheap. It possibly was Stouse I don't remember. But I am possitive they were the temporary license plates that you see at car lots. The holes were in the same spot. I would never go with PVC for outdoor use. Coroplast is even a better option than PVC, unless you prefer the wavy material look.

Polyetheylene is a great material but it bows and has to be printed using UV, I would use the Osha sign blanks, Grimco sells them plus there are holes in the corners.

FireSprint.com

Trade Only Screen & Digital Sign Printing
Lexan (Polycarbonate) - 10+ years outdoors
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) - 3-5 years outdoors
Polystyrene and PVC should not be used in permanent outdoor application

Of course aluminum is pretty good for this.

We have printed several license plate (12x6") blanks for fence makers. They are ready to go and are generally made of HDPE or Aluminum.

I'm looking into the OSHA blanks. I sent an email to Keith @ I45 to get a price on it to give to the customer. It'll probably be double or a little more than the PVC, but it'll last a really long time in comparison.
