FJ Cruiser Top Troubles...

Is there something different about the paint on the Toyota FJ Cruiser top??

I've recently removed a one year old wrap I did and the top was incredibly difficult to remove. A ton of residue was left over and it seemed to be a lot more aggressive on the top than the other surfaces.

I'm now wrapping the top of another customers in matte black...started with 3M 1080 and when I lifted to reposition, it cracked and the adhesive was being super aggressive.

Got some Oracal 970RA in matte black, and similar issues. The other painted surfaces seem fine and the vinyl is repositionable like I'm used to, but the top of this thing seems different.

Anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Ben

Instant vinyl removal...

I saw this on one of the FJ forums! Crazy stuff and the fact that he wasn't seriously injured is amazing.

I didn't wrap the top of my FJ. First, the white top is a signature part of the FJ heritage. Secondly, I was worried that it would bake on and become difficult later on (I guess that I was right).

It was definitely difficult to remove the one I installed and removed a little less than a year later.

The one I'm wrapping now, though, I should be able to reposition both the 3M 1080 and Oracal 970RA within minutes of application, shouldn't I?

The 3M just ripped, the oracal would rip, but also leave behind a ton of adhesive...after minutes of being on the white FJ top. Other parts of the car, no problem...
