FJ540 unusual sound when printing

I'll try to make this as brief as possible...
Loading some new media and as the carriage was coming out to check the width, I bumped the front cover and the carriage jerked to a stop, resulting in some kind of speed error. Cycled the power, carriage came out and checked the media, all is well.

Now, when printing, an unusual noise is coming from (I think) the "spool" that winds and unwinds the cable that drives the carriage. I think possibly the cable got off track or something and is now crossed up and rubbing on itself. Printer still prints fine, but I'm worried about the extra stress on the drive motor and associated components.

Anyone ever seen / heard this? how to remedy? Called Roland, they gave me an out-of-work number and my supplier's tech hasn't worked on any FJ's (only print & cut), but I wouldn't think that would make a difference, + he told me to call Roland, so he doesn't sound too confident in his skills.

i would take the top cover off to see if the cables ink lines have not been dislodged. i would not use it much if at all till you know what it is.

Printer still works fine? Just turn up the volume on the radio and keep on printing!

Try folding and tripping a piece of media in the cover sensor (upper right, bronze tab). run a print and see where it's coming from.

That's what I did to determine that it seemed to be coming from the cable "spool." Still printing at the moment. Going to try another Roland tech to see if they can help.
