Flexi or computer problem??

I have had problems with opening files or even files that I create with lots of smaller vector objects and masking being very slow to do anything in. I just purchased some vector art from istock that kills flexi everytime I try to do anything. Even creating a square makes it stop responding for several seconds. Every time you click on anything or move something it takes 10 - 45 seconds to complete. I don't know if this is a problme with Flexi or is it something in my computer, maybe the graphics card.

Flexi 8.6

Computer
Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.40Ghz
Intel DP35PDM mobo
8 gig ram
300gb Velociraptor HD
Nvida GeForce 9600 GSO 1gb Video card
Wondow Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Thanks for any help you can give.

I doubt very much its a video card issue.

You've got lots of power there, so I'm thinking either hard drive is getting full or hard drive is failing - or you have something in the background running (possibly unnoticed) that is eating up the CPU power.

cntrl+alt+del gets you to the task manager - then the performance tab - you can see how much ram and cpu performance you're currently using.

are other programs slow, or just Flexi?

A couple of our designers have noticed similar strange issues with files from iStock causing Flexi to crash, so I doubt very much that it is something with your computer but instead something with Flexi itself or something with the files from iStock.

Conor - The hard drive barely has anything on it and there is no large usage of cpu or ram while this is happening, I've checked. This has been happening for awhile even right after the computer was new.

Choucove - This is not just files from istock, it happens on files that I create that have a lot of the same type objects and masking.

I have been able to deal with this but it is getting very annoying. Thanks for the help.

I guess the real question is then, do you get any (even small) glitches or hesitations in another programs? (especially bigger ones like photoshop) or is the problem unique to Flexi?

I know a bad memory module can cause odd problems like that too.

If you have more than one "stick" try running with just one / then other to see if it helps. Just be careful taking memory in and out of the computer - be sure you stay grounded to (touch with your other hand) the case while handling them.
