Fred, what is the % of correct hits with this program, is it always on target?
Very high ...for me around 90% if the art has reasonable contrast and alignment. Less experienced or capable users may not do as well, but it gets enough right to be well worth the $50 investment. I get a lot of duplication because I have it setup to use an extensive library of fonts I have on my file server as well as the Find My Font online library. And because I have a long term interest in font ID, there is, at times, a benefit that comes into play for me that is both interpretive and subjective. The search results are a ranked percentage list with the correct font often not being the top choice. It would never be always because artwork may not be good enough or the font may not be in the databases.
What's good about it is:
1. It's ability to overcome design modifications such as condensing, expanding, slanting and even emboldening automatically. Rotation and various distortions can be dealt with manually within the program as well.
2. It can be setup to search your locally stored fonts and/or the online database which is particularly useful for covering commercial fonts you may not have and the huge number of free fonts available at sites like dafont.com.
3. For the ethically challenged, knowing the name(s) of clones of many commercial fonts both of which appear in the ranked results is also a big money saver.
4. It's very user friendly for all the technical details it deals with.
