Grease streaks on back of media from grit roller

I'm getting lines on the back of my media, looks like black grease of some sort. It's coming from the smooth spots on the grit roller on a Mutoh VJ1204. Causing problems on double sided banners. It also will transfer to the rubber on the pinch roller if the media is narrow, then the next time wider media is run through it leaves the black lines on the print side, coming from the rubber roller.

Any Ideas? Is there a bearing or smething under there that the grit roller rides on?

There are bearings, but they should be sealed.

Could it be ink?
Randy, I'm 99% sure it's not ink. It doesn't dry on the rollers or the platen. If you look at the pictures you can see a rough spot going around the grit roller, looks like a stripe around it almost. I had already wiped it off when I took these pics but that's where it builds up and then it gets on the rubber pinch roller in the same spot. only about 1\16" to 1\8" wide. I think it coming from below the roller, whatever it rides on.

NP, I had to look this one up and first looked it up for an FII0.

There are two sealed bearings (front and back) creating a saddle that this surface rides on.
BTW, you dont want to disassembly any of this yourself, it takes some special fixtures to realign.

So there should be no grease coming from the assembly itself.

That one is gone! :Big Laugh

Ok I just ran some glossy vinyl through upside down as a test and got the marks on the glossy side. It's been sitting for a couple hours and it still wipes off the vinyl with my finger, So i'm afraid it's grease. My original dealer is no longer a Dealer for Mutoh. Who should I contact about this? Should still be under warranty.
