Grimco to discontinue 20/20 ink for Mutoh

Just got off the phone with Grimco and it appears they are throwing in the towel on their 20/20 inks for Mutoh. As I can attest, they were plagued with problems with the chips on the cartridges. I remember one episode where I went through 4 magenta cartridges to get one working.

The ink printed great, and they offered a complete warranty on the head and ink train - just couldn't get around Mutoh's built in security with their chips.

I've heard rumors that another large vendor was planning on coming out with 3rd party ink carts for the VJ line...? Oh well, back to OEM for now.

hmm, the chip security isn't really a big deal. Well actually it is, but it's easy to get around. Does yours use the same cartridges as the 1614? If so, I have a recommendation for you.

Cartridge is the same but the 1204 and 1304 typically use 220ml carts not 440ml. You can stick a 440 in the machine, but it will only use half the ink in the cart.

If I could find a good reliable bulk system from a 3rd party vendor I'd be interested. However, the ones I've seen require you to create new profiles, etc. That was the nice part about the 20/20 carts (Formerly Triangle?) The ink was compatible with OEM, as in no flush needed, AND the color profiles were identical, so no changes needed to be made in Wasatch. I guess Grimco was so fed up with the problems they've had they're shipping their entire inventory back to the manufacturer. So, it's not like they'll even sell the remaining carts at a discount, etc.

BTW - I'm all ears concerning your work-around...

the chips dictate the volume of the ink my VJ1204 printer reads, not the cartridge size. So far there are 220ml & 440ml chips available. I've used 220ml cartridges with 440ml chips where I have to fill the cartridges twice before I have to change new chip. Now I am using 500ml cartridges, some times only have 220ml chips available, so I have put new chips in while the cartridges still half full.

check with jetbestusa.com. They have steady supply of inks and chips for VJ1204, provided you have not upgraded your firmware.
