Back when I was a pinstriper at a major American motorcycle manufacturer, striping a full 2-3 V twins a day, I was actually that good at our repeat layouts. We didn't have many repeats though as we were advertised as a production custom manufacturer and every job had to be slightly different. I believe that becoming a very proficient striper is actually easier than hand lettering with adequate practice. I wish I was still as good as I was back then. A few weeks ago I striped my daughter's boyfriends motorcycle. I saw it again last night and wasn't overly impressed with what I did. It looked real good, but not as good as in my heyday. I have a Goldwing coming up to stripe and am planning on it being a masterpiece. I'll likely go so far as to make patterns for the striping, something I don't really believe in. We didn't ever have patterns at the motorcycle factory.
