Head Ranking Dx4

Does anyone know how Epson ranks their heads? I've heard they have 2-3 different tiers. Is their really that much difference between their tiers?

Dx4 head ranking is the hexadecimal number printed on the head. To my knowledge it applies to the physical charge settings needed for the variable dot capability.

That makes sense, hence inputting the rank number so the printer knows the voltage. I also thought ranking was a part of the quality of the printhead. Different ranks for different products. A tech I was talking mentioned 2 or 3 different rankings. Don't recall

There are 3 different voltages to the heads for Variable dot print, which are set in the mystery code of the head rank. That's likely what he was referring to. There isn't a quality scheme of better or worse heads if that's what you're asking.

That is exactly what I was asking. I was told that A Rank was for Roland, epson etc & B or C goes to other vendors. I'm glad to hear there isn't.
