Hello everyone!
My name is Doug Haffner and I love signs.
I live in a small town north of Peoria, Illinois called "Wyoming"...confusing, I know.
I'm trying to figure out where I might fit in the sign business and learning all I can before I make a plunge. I'm interested in doing 3 dimensional signs, but enjoy hand painting and carving (both hand and cnc).
I happened across this site (as well as some others) and saw a group of folks who seem willing to help (even if helping means telling a poor fella he needs to be doing something else). I have a thick skin and can handle getting some brutal honesty about my work...I have no idea how one can grow or improve without it. The best mentors I've ever had in anything I've done have known when to tell me to start over. Sometimes it had nothing to do with the work I'd done, but a feeling they had that I could do better. I know from some of those folks that "good enough" can be high praise and "it's better than the last one" can be a soft reprimand. I try to keep my ears and mind open and my excuses to a minimum.
I've been lurking about and soaking up what I could. Thanks for everything you've already provided!
Doug
