Help removing paper from plexiglass

Hi guys does anyone have a secret way to remove the protective transfer paper thats on plexiglass that's been sitting around your shop for a while?

Right now the paper is coming off in half inch by half-inch pieces.

Please help my fingers are killing me.

Thanks

Yes I tried a little heat with a heat gun should I try a lot of heat.
I don't want to burn the Plexiglas

I will try the paint thinner, still going slow though.
I thought I would save some money and use some old stock. Wrong!

Thanks for the info.

Paint thinner isn't going to cloud the plexi? Just wondering I've never tried it..

I remember doing that and as a result the next person who calls me for one of those will get referred elsewhere.
I was afraid to use paint thinner on mine, so I heated it with a hair dryer NOT a heat gun and peeled a bit at a time.
It sucked out loud.
I had to do three 4x10 sheets in a cold garage.
Never again.

mineral sprits

Put it on the paper, let it soak in and it will come off, will not harm plexi. Also turpentine works.

Normally the paper on plexi if it is hard to remove it usually is very very old and is already yellowed a bit. Lexan (polycarbonate) is the best

Thanks everyone.

Especially to you Billct2 and John Butto, and Pat Whatley.

I used paint thinner and it came off so now I just got to clean up the paint thinner.

Three signs, last night it took me an hour to take the paper off of one sign. Today it took me 10 minutes to take the paper off of two signs.

Thanks again.

I've never had a problem getting the paper off plexi, but my plexi supplier told me once that if it's a real PITA to get off, peel it back until you can roll it up and peel it off by rolling it back as tightly as possible.

Again, no idea if there's any merit to that, since i've never had that problem.

i use a spray degreaser called "Tool Crib" made by the Seymour co. It also works great for removing vinyl adhesive....

As others have stated, use mineral spirits.

No ill effects to the plexi.

MS was recommended by of our several plastic suppliers for many years.

Saturate well and re-wet as necessary. The paper has rubber cement as the adhesive.

I would say give Rapid Tac adhesive remover a try but that is too expensive to use on a full 4' x 8' sheet. Ya, I'm frugal.

$10 vs $50? ya it makes sense

the easiest and cheapest way in my opinion is to get an empty vinyl core (48" long) and start to wrap the peeled around it an roll it up....works great on dibond, alumalite and other substrates with the protective sheeting.
