I have a CJ500 Eco Solvent Printer which has been sitting for a while, I have accidently put it into Head Wash mode, Now it is asking for cleaning cartridges which I don't have & don't really want to buy, I have had everything cleaned up & I just want to test run it, but know one seems to know how to get it out of this mode, I have shut done the power, but when I turn it on, its still in the same mode. Can anyone tell me if you can get it out of this mode, without getting cleaning cartridges. Help Please!
Thank
Scott

there may be some parameter like settings that can get you there. ...do your carts have chips? (i don't think they do). either way, if they do, just take off the chips and your printer will think they are cleaning carts....

just unhook your pump tubes and let the printer click away thinking it's pumping cleaning solution. when done, hook back the pump lines. when it says to set the cleaning cart, just unplug your ink cart and stick it back in. no need for special stuff.

Artbot is right...

That should work as the pump will just run for a timed period (runs for a long time while you wait.... seems like forever but it will stop).

So yes take the two tubes off the cap tops that lead to the pump and let it think it's doing it's job. You will need to leave them off while it trys to load the ink back in as well or you will waste a pile of ink.

Also these printers do not use the chip so you should not need to remove any chips that might be on the carts.

Thanks Guy's, I will give this a try!
(Yes they do have Chips, they are Original Roland Carts)

Do the Carts have to have chips to run in a CJ500?

....to start, when it says "load cleaning tool...(or whatever your firmware specifies)..." just take out the cart and carefully take off the chip. i've never seen a cleaning cart with a chip. i've seen blanks put in that spot, but i've also used cleaning carts with open spots... no difference. the printer will most likely wait for a cart to be removed, then repalced (chipless). of course a cj500 owner might be able to clarify the exact procedure. but most these printers operate on the same principles.

The CJ 500 does not read the chip. It can run with a refill cart with no chip or after market inks etc. It does not read the chip.

Like Artbot says, when it askes you to put in the cleaning cart you should be able to either just hit enter or if it needs you to remove the cart and put back in, then enter.

What you will notice is that when you remove a cart and put it back in, it thinks you put in a new full cart and will read "full" in the menu as a full cart. Thus do not depend on that info. Also when you use a 440 ml cart it only thinks its a 220 ml and will show empty half way through, but again it does not use that info to stop the printer on an empty cart. It just reads that tab that pops out when the cart is empty.

One thing on a converted CJ 500 is to make sure the original drain line is not used as it is so thin it will block easily. Run the drain lines direct to the drain bottle and even move the bottle to the front of the printer and hang it off the front so the lines reach.
