Do some research and reading and come up with what you think might work and maybe post your thoughts or ideas. You'll probably meet a lot less resistance having shown you've already done some of the legwork. The forum sees a lot of new users that come in with "I have a computer, what else do I need and how do I do this" types and they usually are not greeted too warmly.
Establish in your own plan what your intentions are and what you're capable of and work up from there for hardware and materials.
If none of that makes sense, just get a Graphtec, cause they're good
