HP Latex 64 Plus Cutter Issues

Hi! My company is having some issues with our HP Latex 64 Plus cutter. We are using 3M Controltac vinyl and the cutter is not wanting to cut through the backing. I talked with a rep from HP and he suggested changing our blade from a 45 degree to a 60 degree. We did that and now it is leaving little jags on the edges of our logos and cutting through the backing too much. I adjusted all the settings (velocity to 10, pressure to 80-100, and Flexcut to 40. This is what the HP rep recommended) but it did not help. He said the next step is to get a tech out here to replace the whole Drag Head, OPOS Sensor and calibration kit but is there anything else I could try before we go down that route?

If you are using the Flex-Cut function it is likely to leave slight tabs as these are needed to keep the sticker in place during the cutting process, and allow it to be punched out after cutting is complete. Some people use a deep kiss cut rather than the Flex Cut for this reason. The 60-degree blade geometry has less resistance to piercing, and needs a lot less downforce than the standard 36-degree blade, probably less than half of the 36. There is likely nothing wrong with the cutter, it simply needs to be dialed-in to your media.

Thank you for the reply! What is the best/most time efficient way to dial it in? I've changed all the settings to what the HP rep recommended

Test and make adjustments. Any recommendations are going to be only 'starting places' to begin adjustments from. There are literally hundreds of SAV films on the market, and each of them are somewhat unique in terms of caliper thickness, backing paper construction/ weight. This requires that the settings on the cutter or software to be dialed in to the media and knife geometry that is being used.

Thank you for your help Mr. Wagner! I've been testing and making adjustments to the full and flex pressure settings. Hopefully that will do the trick!

Try cleaning blade holder, checking offset setting, and testing lower pressure—might save you a tech visit!
