I heard some word on the street about fordcommerialgraphics.com which has some other counterpart websites.. Nissan, Chevy.. Etc. They have obviously invested a LOT of money into web development and online marketing. (which makes for a site that's impossible to compete with) people can design their own wraps and purchase with a new vehicle.

My point.. If my info is correct- is that the sites were all aquired by 3M and now you are technically fighting for these jobs against a manufacturer.

So.. Why are you all buying 3M when they are stealing your business? I'm just sayin'... your probobly loosing business to all the fleets they get via these sites and your all buying their material which gives them more money to market in this industry and take more work from you.

Yup. Look up the threads, me and chris at prowraps made about a year ago. Not happy campers. 3M bought out a company called original wraps - 2 miles from my shop, took their online website. Allowed people to make and upload their own graphics, and then, before purchase.. 3m would choose which shops would wrap them... and it was only shops that bow'd down to 3M products, and were approved by their company. Then the companies 3m choose to wrap the vehicles would work with the dealerships.. and NOT the customer.. hence.. no return customers.. and WAY less profit. But apparently they shut it down last month due to many reasons...but i'm sure it's still very much in motion.

Pretty much you can go to a ford dealership, and purchase a fleet of 12 vehicles.. have a lease payment on all of them.. they offer to add a couple bucks on to the lease for company branding on the vehicle. 3m is trying to position them selves in the market as the only acceptable wrap material in the market...

we stopped buying 3m 180 for about 5 months. switched to avery ez...
3Ms top people then called us...6 of them i think...and tried to sort things out. I mean they provide a great product.. i just questioned their business ethic.. in reality, my supplier became my immediate competition.

I have some friends that own Ford dealerships and asked them about the graphics and what the response has been. Both dealerships said it didnt take off like they were told it was going to.

Also as a kick in the crotch to all of us, one dealer said:"Our shop guys have a hard time putting on the graphics also!"

I told him that the point was to purchase the graphics and have outside companies put them on. He told me that at no time was the dealerships told to look for an outside graphics company to do the application.

Thanks 3M:frustrated:

It's going to be funny when all the graphics are installed with flaws. They are getting the basic $8.50/hr detail kids to put them on i bet. That's what they would do around here anyway.

Art! Hot and fresh.
I could easily pick up a ton of work from the car dealerships around here, Basically do on site installs of graphics and the such ... unfortunately the average job takes over 2-4 weeks to approve just because you submit the graphics to the dealership, the rep shows to the customer, customer to rep, rep to you, you to rep, etc, etc, etc. I think I will let the dealerships try to do their wrap jobs, and then when the customers graphics fail ... they can come to a real pro.

Fun part, a bunch of my customers who have to have body work done ... take it to shops that can replace the graphics ... but because all the actual graphics parts of it are custom ... the body shop still has to have me do the work for them. good stuff.

there are many bad things i want to say about that company... ill refrain.

Well we're officially moving out of 3m now--the product is great, the company is too greedy
its not enough to manufacture everything that I see on my desk, but now to try to take our work...geez
Thanks for the heads up
