I need practice!

I've done a couple partials, easy stuff on flat side trucks. Now that I have the software with vehicle templates I wanna get my feet wet a little more. I've learned techniques online and reading. Nothing beats the good ole hands on experience. I just want to know what I can start wrapping to help myself get better. Should I start with small items? Practice with wrapping bumpers? I also use 365 for my wrap vinyl which they use the 3M control tac and I don't want to spend $5 a sq ft practicing. I would like a comparable material I could order that is cheap enough to practice. I wanna get serous about this and want a crash course in wrapping. Any help is appreciated.

You need to use a better material for practice. I have been doing full design, print and installs myself for 4 years and just finished up two cube vans with 3m control tac. Another supplier printed them and no one else would put them on for the customer. In short, it sucks! Even after doing more than 60 full semi trailers with rivets and corrugations in my portfolio, the control tac crap made it challenging for me on these cube vans.

Make sure it has air egress technology and is re-positional. Avery MPI 1005 EZ RS is what I have found works best with DOL 1360 clear. You should be able to get samples from your supplier. Make sure you practice with color. White won't teach you a lot about how the color and/or pattern will stretch and change when going around tougher pieces. Bumpers are good but you also have to know when one piece won't work and need to have seams. Unless you have classes near you it is a costly lesson to learn by trial. I live in Central MN and there are no classes around so when I contacted Fellers for materials then sent me a wide range of samples. Then you can learn by yourself what your material preference is. Most people on here will argue what material is best. Just make your own mind up.

You have to spend money to learn so saying you don't want to spend money making mistakes is not how to look at it. Good luck. Wraps aren't all about installs. The MOST important step is the first...... good design based upon the vehicle, etc. it is being placed upon. That sets up the wrap for success right down to the install.

I appreciate the feedback. Are there any wholesale printers who print on the Avery vinyl? The only supplier I have used or know of for wrap material is 365. I haven't done enough volume to purchase a solvent or latex machine yet.

We have a box van wrap coming up and if interested we'll run it on the Avery combo and wholesale print your job for you.
