image tracing with backround

I have a customer that wants me to design a sticker using his logo but change it up some...my problem is when i bring it into flexi is it has a black backround and when i use the bezier tool to trace i cant get the backround to go away...any ideas???? here is what he sent me...i have the font saved all i need is the fish

In LXi (rebrand of Flexi), I have to right click the image, select Unmask, then select just the black rectangle and delete it, which then leaves just the image you want.
Hopefully that helps.
