Seems lately I've been in a funk with designing, kind of a Designers Block I guess. Either I can't seem to come up with any new ideas for my projects, or I don't really like what I have come up with and feel it needs to be trashed and start over from scratch.

I'm sure this has happened to some of the people in this forum before.

How did you get out of it? I am really starting to struggle with this, and starting to feel burned out. Any suggestions?

Take a vacation and don't look at the scenery through an artist's eye/view. Just have some real fun and relaxation.

Maybe break your design process/routine.
If you start designs with a computer, try a quick sketch to explore ideas

Thanks for the advise.

I'll be heading to Chicago after Thanksgiving. Might have to cancel the Frank Lloyd Wright tour I had planned and just see the town, maybe hit a blues or jazz club instead.

In the meantime I'm going to get the old sketchbook out and start doodling again.

If you ever get to Buffalo, NY you should take a tour of the Martin House that Frank Lloyd Wright designed that they completely reconstructed.

Usually my funk comes from some stress, too many cookie cutter jobs or too many clients messing up the design and me ending up wallowing in mediocrity.

Designers usually get paid to think, so any distractions need to be eliminated or put in their place while you are thinking. I pretty much try to address those situations as much as possible to relieve some of that. Then I take lots of time outs... I'll take a nap, take a walk, make sure I eat regularly, tell someone to kiss my big greasy butt, doodle and crack open books.

If it's a vacation, I highly agree with Gino about going on a vacation and not look at anything like a designer...

The other idea is take a day trip and only look at it as a designer. Theme parks usually do the trick for me.

Motivation is not the problem...LOL. I am plenty motivated, I just feel like a preschooler scribbling on a piece of paper with no objective.
