Question Instaling ink in a VJ-1204

I have ink coming for my Valuejet, I was doing some maintenance and I was trying to look in the ink cartridge slot and it appears to be blocked. I tried to push it open but it didn't open.

Do I need the ink in order for the plate to move?

The ink cartridge acts like a key and will release that plate when you install it.
