Saw this ad first thing this morning on my local newspaper web site. No wonder people don't want to pay for logos...

Just clicking through one of the logo design people's links he's from India, he's got 45 orders in the works right now, has a 3 day turn around and if you want editable files from him it's $20 extra. I don't think I'm gonna make $1125 in the next three days.

The really interesting part is that his stuff is better than most of the "real" designers I see.

Then there's the American designer giving people EXACTLY what $5 should buy them. http://fiverr.com/anaday1974/created-an-awesome-and-professional-logo-in-less-that-24-hours

Baaah, after that last "what do graphic designers do" thread, seems that's all we are worth anyway, well, unless you are not actually a "designer"...

I can't. :omg:

I'd eat up all the profits. I love hamburgers and hot dogs.... even if I have to make them.

Digital Point

Saw where someone talked about getting logos on this DigitalPoint website. So being curious as I am, went and registered on there. Went to contests and entered one for a whopping $10 payout. Like placing a $2 bet on a favorite. The guy wanted my logo and offered $5, told him no that $10 was the deal. He wanted to see it different ways, did that and then I told him to send $10 Paypal. Says he does not trust me and wants the logos first, says his father is a MLB player and money is no object. But on a side note, there is a lot of good stuff being sold for $10 and $20. People on there have nice presentations, with assorted Photoshop backgrounds. Hell, figured that I put logo ideas and fool's painting on here for free, why not make $10. plus you get to mess with people like at the market in a third world country.

Definitely some nice stuff there... no doubt....

But these sites are why it is sooooo difficult to sell a logo. Hell - for five bucks, I'll just send the work their way and mark it up  At my hourly rate there is not a chance that I can design one and make it cost-effective...

Will be interesting to see where this all ends up. The "designers" are apparently to stupid to realize they are slitting their own throats. I can see it now: "I'm a designer and live in a cardboard box".

Commoditization of talent is never a good thing.

I have not used www.fiverr but see a lot of overseas folks on there.....I was contacted by a young guy that works for one of the US based art services....They charge 20.00+ and he gets paid 1.80+......So 5.00 is an enormous increase.....

Art! Hot and fresh.
If the dude is in India ... $5 is worth it for him. Think about the market it's from, we think products made in china will be cheap, but worth the (little) money we pay for them.

Now on the other side, I have done the $20 15-30 minute logo thing sometimes ... paid more than when I did some other logos that involved multiple people putting in their input for the logo. But you know, you get what you pay for, an while I did some bang up work in the fly ... I know that a solid 3 or 4 hours on a logo I can create some nice designs that sometimes you don't have with that sort of job. Other times I've worked at a few shops that never charged for logo work so seemed like all I did was 5-15 minute logos that would get dropped on my desk in a giant stack (daily) by the sales people.
