jv33 - Capping stations. When should it be replaced?

Forty One

Make signs they said... It'll be fun they said...
as my post suggests, how would I know the time to replace my capping station?
Are there any obvious tell tale signs to see, print quality, tests or indicators to notice?

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
Signs the cap top needs to be changed:

- You come in every morning and are missing a lot of nozzles
- 1 or 2 normal cleaning cycles doesn't recover nozzles
- The waste tank doesn't fill up as often as it used to
- Cartridges are reading empty when there is still ink in them
- It's been a year or more since you changed it

I've been working on machines in the field and helping people all over the country fix their own machines for a while now. The most common situation I see is people see that their nozzles are missing and cleanings don't fix it so they buy a new head. They put the new head in and it won't ink up. Turns out the cap top was just bad all along. I always recommend changing it once per year at least and that way it doesn't sneak up on you like that.
