Keep rulers visible in Illlustrator?

Is there a preference I can set to keep the rulers visible all the time? I have to turn them on every time I need them. Not a big hassle but it bugs me. Thanks!

I know how to turn them on; I want to keep them on from file to file. Every time I start a new file I have to turn them on.

Where in preferences would I find something that says to keep them on all the time? I've went to Edit > Preferences and can't find it there.

Thanks!

double click on the ruler itself - it should take you right to it.

It's strange that they don't stay, mine stay ... hmm ... what version are you running?

I'm running CS3. I double clicked the ruler and nothing happened. I right clicked but all it gave me was the option to change the measurement (inches, points, pixels, picas, etc.).

Now it's really driving me crazy! :frustrated:

Ok so I spoke to soon. I thought it was exactly like Photoshops ruler. Now you've got me going nuts trying to figure it out too.

I'm on it and will let you know what i find too...

Try this ..... In the Illustrator application folder locate the plugins folder. Find and open the file "Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK.ai". You'll get a new blank document. Turn on the rulers and save the document back to the plugins folder.
Repeat the process with the file called "Adobe Illustrator Startup_RGB.ai". Now any new file you start should have the rulers showing. Works on my mac and it should work on a PC the same way.

Nope, not the same but I think you may have put us on the right track. Just need to find the file that needs to be adjusted...

This is how I do it on CS5 for the mac except the "New Document Profiles" are located in a different area. Just create a new document with the settings, size, and color space you want and save it along with these files. Any new documents will have the same settings including the rulers. Unfortunately, any document you open with have the preferences that it was saved with. There is no way to over ride this afaik. So, you are out of luck with files from outside sources.
