Hello all

Im just wondering why this is happening does anyone have any ideas?

Im using a Roland VG2-300 And ive already tried lowering the cut speed right down and vacuum is up full

Also sometimes when the Media gets Rolled backwards when cutting the media goes to one side, just sometimes making it totally slanted but just wondering why this is not cutting correctly

Any replies are very appreciated

thanks

Adam

If it happens while the plotter is cutting, there can be not enough blade length, too much blade length, wrong pressure, etc. This is particularly true when it happens while cutting unprinted vinyl. But since you have a printer-cutter combination machine, what I see is the result of cutting while the ink is still "wet", i.e. the solvents are still in the vinyl. You have to take the printed vinyl out of the printer and let it dry overnight before you can cut it through the ink or at the edge of the ink.

Looks like the ink was still tacky when this was cut. Solvent inks react with the vinyl and need time to off gas - I would suggest printing today and cutting tomorrow if you are not going to laminate.

Quit buggin' me
Full bleed black contour cut - definitely need to let it set up before you try to cut it. If the ink saturation is high it can take a few days and might still curl when cutting. I always try to talk my customers into leaving a nice clean outline of white when possible to avoid the curling.

Im a rookie and still learning not a full time printer i refurbish things so need to do new labels for each item i tried black matt vinyl but was only 12" wide and not on a proper roll and went all over the place so tried black printing

Thanks very much i will now try and leave overnight and cut in the morning

Many thanks for the replies which were all very helpful and appreciated

what grade (Cal vs Cast) of media are you using?

you need to have a bleed (border) added to your prints, print cut combos, specifically Roland machines, are notorious for shifting / inaccurate cuts.
the longer in length the less accuracy you will have

A bleed means you make an offset or outline of the object of say 0.1" (more on larger objects may be necessary) and give it the same color as the object. That way when you go to cut the object there won't be a little rim of white showing on one side if the cutting is slightly off.

Drying time on the machine can help, but it also means the machine is tied up and unable to work on another job.

The drying time feature is nice, but if you're having to set it to an hour you might be better off sheet-cutting your job(s) so you can keep printing.

You'll need to use the print then cut feature which means printing registration marks and changing your settings to "cut only" when re-loading the media.

Hope that helps/makes sense!
