Laminating a Banner?

I have never laminated a banner before. Never thought about doing it before. My client is having a race this weekend to support the local Aid to Abused People foundation. They want a 4x8 foot banner with mostly white space so that the people racing/walking can write down who they are racing for. They asked if it was possible to cover the writing so it wont be messed up after the race.

Does anyone know if this would protect the marker from fading or transferring to the rest of the banner as it is rolled up?

Why not just try a Sharpie on the material you're going to print and see how it dries? I've laminated banners before but seems to me it's overkill in this case.
