Need Help Mimaki CJV150-75 / Parallels 11 Mac mini M4

Hi,

Im trying to install the drivers to get Rasterlink 7 and CJV150 to work with Parallels 20, windows 11 on a Mac mini M4.
Rasterlink installs fine but the separate driver install looks like it runs into an initial problem (unable to install ) but eventually after quite a bit of waiting looks like it enables me to install.

Parallels sees the CJV150 when I plug printer cable in and i switch it over in Parallels to work with windows and lock it.

When I try to register the printer in Rasterlink, Rasterlink cannot see the printer - the USB option does not come up only FILE so I presume that this is possibly a driver issue ? if I try register the File option I get "The printer name has been already used" have tried multiple names but get the same message

I have tried two types of cables - Printer cable to USB B with a USB C adapter and then Printer cable to USB C ( Mac mini M4 only has USB C inputs now ) and Parallels sees them both

I previously had this set up running perfectly on a 2012 iMac.

Thanks
Graham

I would start with this:

i haven’t ever tried parallels with windows 11 but the first th8ng I would do is be sure you have created a LOCAL “limited”: user (a name, not an email address, with administrator rights.

Sorry I'm not all that familiar with windows are you suggesting from the link you attached to try disabling the secure boot ? then to install the drivers again

What would creating a LOCAL limited user with admin rights do out of interest ?

Thanks!

If it worked on the older Mac it probably was on an old OS. You should download that older OS on the newer Mac and go from there. i am not familiar with a Mac Mini M4.

Attached is an error message I get when installing or removing the driver

Looks like you need to get the updated drivers for your windows software. Probably would be easier to buy a Windows machine at BestBuy and forget the Mac doing the work. You are in a complicated situation with that Paralles Mac to Windows crap.

Just looked, you are in UK, do you have BestBuy there?
I believe it has something to do with the driver not being compatible with the newer ARMS on windows and Mac . (used the latest driver)
Don't have a best buy but I'm sure we have something similar. Just trying to avoid buying another computer is a shame worked well previously on the intel version of Mac Via Parallels rather than the new M chips.

Just hoping there is a work around but looks like maybe there isn't.

Thanks

There is not a working Mimaki ARM driver to my knowledge, just X86 32/64bit drivers. Might be different in the future, but the lumbering Japanese dinosaurs can move slowly at times.

It's sort of masochism to run a old hardware with win/Intel drivers on a new fangled Arm Hardware on a Mac. We simply don't support it. If a customer has the time and nerve to try it, so be it. Just don't call me...
My two cents to be constructive (after my rant), if possible try to use the network interface of the printer.(actual Mimakis have it, not sure about your model)
If it was my customer, I'd tell him to get a refurbished windows box for 200 bucks. Probably cheaper than a parallels license...

The CJV150 doesn't support printing from Ethernet or a network I don't believe but I may be wrong.

Ive contacted Mimaki support via website to request an updated driver to support Arms probs wont happen but worth a shot, any response I will share.

If anyone else is the same boat and needing an Arms driver as I see there are quite a few Arms based PC/laptops being releeased now I would recommend also contacting Mimaki support as the more people that do the more likely they will listen.

Thanks!

Rasterlink 7 is now like $40 and it doesn't take a monster computer to use it. Heck, I use some old Surface tablets with it around the shop and when in the field and it works great. Expanded compatibility would be great, but I am not too sure I would count on them pushing any ARM support anytime soon. Maybe on the new CJV200, the cutting software on that one is on the Microsoft Store and it's kind of their newfangled budget printer.

If you're doing production with software that is designed for Windows, you're going to be best off using a good Windows computer. As stated above, the cost is not much and is probably less than the time spent so far trying to make the Mac work if you calculate your shop rate for the amount of time spent on it along with the time spent on this forum. Unless you just like the challenge of trying to make this work, you'd be better off making the change now.
When I worked for a dealer we, like cornholio, just would not support it. Like I said, if it's the challenge you like, go for it and let us know how it turns out.

Good Luck

The first time we had a customer want to run a Mimaki on a Mac with Parallels was the last time. We tell anyone wanting to do it to get a PC laptop or that we'll get the printer printing but they have to figure out the Mac/Software part on their own.
