News Mimaki Ink Price Increase

Another ink price increase for Mimaki inks now. 6% up. They also are changing some of their shipping from their warehouses, if you get something drop shipped from them it'll be $150 if the order in under $2600. Apparently they are getting tooo many drop ships from their warehouses and it's causing shipping issues and now if you have a part drop shipped it will take 2 days to process so Overnight Shipping will have to account for the 2 day processing.

On a good note they said that they were going to be working on improvng the shelf life on the UV inks to extend their expiration dates.

Hopefully you all don't get ink drop shipped or else you will have to stock up to avoid the fees.

Extending expiration dates sure would be nice. I've thrown out more ink on this machine than any other printer I've owned. Guess I should get on it and keep that thing busy(er), but still not fun throwing money out throughout the year.

As a Mimaki dealer, I can tell you that their shipping situation is the worst it's been in 15 years. I used to get things shipped same day without fail but these days I'm lucky to get an order shipped within 72 hours. With this new change, it's going to affect the UV inks the most. Solvent inks are very easy to stock. Stocking the UV inks is much harder, especially since there are so many varieties and sizes on top of the shorter shelf life. We'd be happy to bring in more stock of UV inks if they came with more than 6 months on them.

At the end of the day I think the new policies will end up being a net good, although I'm sure the transition will be painful for some. Every single one of my vendors has a minimum order policy and I was always surprised Mimaki hadn't implemented one yet.

I'm sure all Mimaki dealers would echo this. Our local dealers don't stock it anymore and have to bring in from their main branch. What we could get same day before now takes about a week.

Once it does finally hit the floor it's pretty rare that we have more than 6 months of life left in the bottles. Although our UCJV seems to be getting dementia, it doesn't reject inks at the 2 month mark any more (Fine by me)

At the end of the day, it's really up to us to keep the thing busy, which I haven't been lately. If you're doing a moderate amount of work with them you shouldn't ever have to worry about the ink shelf life.

It is a bit frustrating though when you compare it to other UV ink manufacturers, like Canon who ship inks direct and have lots of shelf life left on them. Not sure how they've magically figured out the secret to stocking and formulating ink that doesn't go back within a couple of months.

On that note, time to drum up some more business!
