Mimaki JV33 ink conversion

Hey guys!

I'm still trying to convert my jv33 from 2x cmyk to 8 colors.
Already tried on flexi, but it doesn't have the option.
Now I'm trying with onyx thrive. I've made a new media profile for this printer with custom ink channels. CMYK+Orange+Red+Green+Light Black.
When I try to print a file, the printhead moves, but it doesn't print. When I change it to cmyk, it prints, so I guess there's a problem with the printer's config (2x cmyk).
If onyx can't avoid that, the only way I have to add custom inks, is converting the printer to cmyk lm lc, so I can put orange with light magenta chip and another color with the light cyan one.
I've changed the custom parameter 92 (INKTYPE) to 2, as it's the one someone should change to change the ink config, but nothing changes. Printer is still set like 2x cmyk.
What may I'm missing?

Thanks, Alex

You need to do more than adjust your rip program.

You need to physically change the ink configuration inside the machine.
The JV33 models are set up for dual CMYK carts with UISS (Uninterupted Ink Supply Service). If you want to run 8 colours, you need to remove the T joints in the ink hoses behind the carts.
However, there is no profile for the JV33 to run anything other than CMYK. Nothing in either SS21 or ES3.
In my opinion, unless you REALLY need the LC & LM, don't bother. The JV33 is a good machine and works well. Just adjust your colour balances if you really need to.

yeah, I know. the idea is to add orange and other color (need orange the most) for motocross graphics, so the only option is using lc and lm mode. the problem is that I changed the parameter on the printer and it’s still in 2x cmyk.

I've searched throughout the profiles listed on colourbase https://colorbase.com/ and theres only 2 or 3 profiles of media under SS21 inks that utalise CMYK and Lc & Lm.
these are 3m profiles.
Have you changed the parameters for the ink fillup?
if not, before you start this process, you will require 8 cartridges of ink.
how to change the ink set
Turn the machine on while holding the Left and Right arrow keys. This will boot in parameter mode.
Hit end to back out to the main parameter menu and then scroll down until you see Running Parameters.
Hit enter and the look for a parameter called FILLUP. Hit enter and then change the value. If it's set to 1 already change it to a 0. If it is 0 change it to a 1. Hit enter then end and it will write the parameter. Then turn the machine off using the back power switch and then power back on normally. The machine should now boot up as if it's filled.

Have you done the selection of ink types yet?
Go to chapter 5, pg 19 of this manual for the JV33. https://mimaki.com/archives/034/201301/JV33-260_Operation_D201994-V1.5.pdf
You need to choose the ink type and then it will let you choose the configuration of the ink set up.

i agree with alex (i have never owned a mimaki, however)
who wouldn't want to have the range & color space you can achieve with one of the new epsons?

whether itis achievable and whether it is worth the trouble of making all your own profiles, and never putting the photo spectrometer back
in the cabinet (where some say it belongs) & whether alex has the patience to deal with all the issues that will pop up (and all the hits to his cash flow)

i can only say that i would do it, but, not so sure if the jv33 is your only printer
