Mutoh 1204 - only half black jets printing

After performing a nozzle test, all jets are firing with all 4 colours except the second set of black jets (2nd innermost set of the black pair). I can do a few head cleanings and maybe get a few jets but that's it. I've soaked the head to no avail. Checked the pump - it's drawing ink perfectly fine. Cleaned the capping station and wiper. Stumped.

Is this maybe a problem with the black damper? But if so, why would only 1 half of the nozzles print? Wouldn't both fail?

Any ideas?

There is a damper for eack ink channel so there are 2 dampers for each color

I started having this problem Friday half way threw printing a banner, the inks turned from black to dark green, it was late in the day so I waited until monday to start trying to fix the printer. After doing the same things as you all day yesterday, soaking the head, pulling ink threw the maintenance station and not having any luck, this morning I decided to dig a little deeper. In the past I have received error messages that I eventually found was one of the two ribbons that connect to the print head. I decided to try removing both ribbons from the print head and reconnecting them like I have done in the past. To my surprise, the printer is now printing as good as it was before. I am not sure how comfortable you are working on your printer, but you do have to remove your print head from the carriage to get to the two ribbons I am talking about. I also of course cant say this will fix your problem for sure, but it did fix mine.
