We have replaced Maintence station, Encoder Strip, CR Motor, Encoder Sensor, Checked To see if sensor is hitting Strip (nope), Lubed rails, Head is free traveling.

PROBLEM- Turn on machine, Initialinzing.......Head twitches about 1/8" and them moves about 3 inches(When it is not in the docking station) and then Erro68 - CR ENCODER.

Sign warehouse Tech is stumped. He can not give me any pointers. Unplug sensor-still does it, swap back to old cr motor-does it, unplug cr motor-head does not move, but Errors.

Please let me know if anyone can help!!!! We are stuck and business is piling up quick!!!!

Did you check Encoder values in diagnostic mode?
If OK, you have to replace motor driver on mainboard.

If this is an older machine, the drive belt may be worn out and too loose. You can try to tighten it to see if that helps but you may need to replace it. The tightening screw is on the right side of the machine from the front.

Other than belt tension, you could have bad CR cables, CR board(rare), and/or main board problems.

+1 On checking the PF encoder. Even though it only controls the print feed, for some reason it affects the CR motor and can cause CR errors.
