IR switch work around

i'm sure you mutoh is different, but i did this work around for my 160sp. i can't stand a printer that does too much thinking. i print on aluminum 90% of the time and it's dangerous for the printer to have a mind of it's own.

basically the signal to measure is sent to the printer when it knows that the pinch wheels are lifted and then lowered.

on jv3's, the IR sensor is inside the machine on the rear pinch roller lever and has a little piece of something that goes between the IR sensor every time you pull the lever to lift the pinch rollers.

i took off the IR switch and lengthened the wires to the top of the machine. now the machine thinks i never ever lift the pinch wheels. when there is the occasion that i want it to measure (which is almost never) i simply tilt my homemade blocker between the sensor (you don't need the blocker, you could just stick a small piece of paper or whatever between the sensors), and then away. the machine wakes up and measures. ONLY WHEN I SAY.

no. look at the moving parts, if it's got an IR sensor, there will be a wire feeding toward that hardware to send the signal to the firmware. very possibly a sensor on maybe the first pinch roller but i doubt it.

If you don't have a user's manual you can get one from Mutoh's website. I'm sure you can turn that function off from the setup menu.

thanks for your help artbot. i will try to see if i can find a sensor someware.
I'm not sure but since the pinchrollers are operated electronically on that printer it may not have that same type of sensor. It may just be detected through the Mainboard. I'd be very careful about trying to disable or faking out that sensor (if you do find one). If your Carriage moves while the rollers are up you may have serious problems or you could damage the mainboard and at nearly $4000 you don't want to do that too often.
