Mutoh FO 62 finally died -_-

*sighs*

The printer is a Mutoh Falcon Outdoor 62 and has had issues with the new ink for the past few months. I've worked through and resolved every issue this printer has had and I was a computer tech for a gov't contractor before working on this so I know that ESD is not a problem here.

I printed a 10 foot banner yesterday and about 50% through the print the falcon ran out of black ink and was asking for more, so I fed it some more and it kept printing along... then about 80% into the print I noticed the crystal display was talking jibberish, mixed up letters and other characters that don't make any sense. Thought to myself, "f*@% at least it's still printing" and here I am this morning to find that although it did finish the banner yesterday, it won't do anything today.

It will however check for the media size, but then the carriage returns to the capping station and just sits there. I can make it spit the media out with the Shift + Menu Down keys but I can't make it retract, or clean, or print.

First instinct was to check the ribbon cable connecting the control (main?) board to the motherboard, no luck there. Replace control board or what?

Thanks for any ideas in advance. ^_^

i have had similar quirks with that ribbon cable. remove and reinstall and tweak usually clears it up. connection is weak at the control panel on mine.

Well I reseated it several times and got different results on the display each time but never could get it back to normal, so we are gonna order a new ribbon cable and see if that solves the problem.
