Does anyone have experience using a ValueJet 1614 and a Graphtec FC8000 with Mac computers? I'm trying to get things delivered with Fellers, but they are telling me that I cannot run the plotter with my current setup. I have brand new iMacs (updated to 10.6.5) running FlexiExpert 7.5v5 and it currently works fine with my CE2000-60 They are trying to find out if it will work if I upgrade to Flexisign 8.5

According to Scanvec, Flexi 10 for Mac is coming in the spring. Fellers said they would give me $1,000 to buy a dedicated PC to run the equipment. I would still do the design work on the Mac. I know nothing about PCs, so if something went wrong, I would be up s**t creek. Any help would be appreciated.

Honestly, I'd go the route of having a dedicated PC to run your RIP software - especially if Fellers is throwing it in with the deal. Even though I'm also a "Mac guy" I still have one PC here in the shop that is both my RIP for Wasatch and controls my Summa cutter using Summa's Winplot software.

Everything I do is designed on a Mac, and then manually transferred to my PC via a thumb drive. My PC isn't hooked up to my network or the internet because I don't want to risk any chance of viruses, trojans or other malware.

*One other scenario you might consider is to use VMware Fusion to run Windows on your Mac. (I also do this for Quickbooks). I'm honestly not sure about the full compatibility between your RIP and printer doing this, but it might be an option.

What I would do is get a copy of Windows & Parallels, If you load Windows on with Parallels, you command tab between programs, windows runs on my Mac like any other program does, just have them buy you a copy of windows & parallels, & you can just have one station, I just make sure I never surf the net on the windows side & there never seems to be any problem.

This is the option that I hope will work. The guy at Fellers HQ and I talked yesterday about needing Boot Camp for tech support only. The local sales guy came in this morning, after talking with the guy in OK, telling me I need a dedicated PC to do any printing/plotting. Still waiting to hear back if this will work with Parallels or VM Fusion.

I'm running a Graphtec 7000 on my MacPro via Illustrator and Cutting Master from Graphtec. Runs great for just cutting vinyl and also prints from my HP9000s.
I running Posterjet RIP through Parallels on the same Mac. Works great too if you can call anything on windows as great. The only reason I'm there is Posterjet was supposed to have their Mac version completed long ago.

I used to run it in OS9 on my Powerbook when I had an HP5000. Loved it but I may jump ship to a different Mac RIP as soon as possible.
