Near disaster averted

Started a print job and was sitting at my comp about 6 feet away. I bought these little tools that can only be described as dentist tools, although they are not of the same quality at $7 . In any case I use them to remove caked up ink or any other number of things around the printer and cutter. This one tool was sitting above the capping station on the top of the printer for months. Today it somehow through vibration migrated to the edge of where the cover comes down and just as the printer started printing I heard something fall. I was slow to react and then turned around and to my horror see this 10" piece of metal wedged into the capping station with the print head starting its return journey. I jumped up in panic and quickly realized I cant physically stop the head from going back, what am I going to do... I hit the power button!!! WOW .... That tool was wedged right in on an angle facing the returning carriage. Who knows how much damage that would have caused had I left the room like I normally do when printing.

Nothing is sitting on top of the printer from now on...NOTHING!!!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program

Thanks for the reminder. I will go and clean mine off.

I guess you had the cover off the printer if it is a Roland?

I had to sell a guy a new print head the other day because he left a screw on the platen after working on his machine. The head scraped across the screw and shredded the bottom of the print head. Always keep track of your parts and tools when working on your machine!

We lost an employee like that once. Forgot where we left him when out on a job....... and never saw him again.
I hate when that happens. It's even worse when you put your glass down and don't remember where you put it. :beer
