The timing fence is that clear strip across the top of the rail. You can't see it without taking the top cover off. Check also that your carraige isn't getting hung up on the capping station or capping station hoses. I have had the same error numerous times and it was nothing more than a hose striking against the printer head. It doesn't take much for it to trigger the error.
