posting this here as it is an electrical sign but the issues are in the faces. this sign's faces are routed aluminum with push thru letters. the company that made this sign who will so far remain nameless did this sign for us last year. it leaked in the letters bad and we had them make new faces. the first set of faces, they double back taped the letters to the plastic backing which created a gap between the letters and the backing. new faces, they re-did the routed aluminum and told us they had a flange on the letters, ran stud into the backing and nutted the letters. the water getting in is worse than ever.

they totally ignored how I spec'd the job as I wanted .5" clear with white on the face of the letter. they decided to use the white of the backing and no white on the letter face. this way the letter is totally clear and every little flaw shows up, thanks for that.

in the photo you can see water and the dark areas is where the water is built up and hasn't drained out if it ever will. anyone know what these idiots shopuld be doing so this doesn't happen? I am so ticked off and our customer is too. we subbed it out as we don't UL list. the company we used is not some mom & pop shop they are "World Wide" so they should be able to handle a simple sign like this without messing it up twice

the problem is the water fill up the letters like they were little glasses. since the pinheads did clear letters, anything done to them shows. they were suppose to rout the letters so that push thru all have a flanges. they then "said" they were drilling into the backs of the flanges, putting in studs and stud mounting with nuts on each stud to the white backing plastic. I personally don't rout or do these kinds of push thu letters but does that at all sound like a good plan? it didn't to me.

There may or may not be a better way to do this, but typically, we simply route our push-through letters with a flange and mount them with silicone.

I have seen push through letters done as a single piece. That is start with a 1" thick piece of acrylic and rout the letter to about 3/4" depth leaving about 1/4" of the base intact. Insert the letters as a single routed piece. As a single piece there's no "there" for water to collect.

that sounds like the best plan

this too sounds like it would work

has anyone ever heard of the studs/nut method?
