New layout for "Let's Rid Our Area of Ugly Signs" campaign

Hey all,

I've been doing this sort of thing for years as both a self-promotion endeavor and to rid the world of ugly signs one region at a time. A couple times a year, after driving past what I consider the ugliest sign in my area, I approach the owner and offer to a do better than average looking sign for a slightly discounted price.

It helps pad your portfolio with the kind of work you want to do, but also advertises your skills without much cost out of pocket. The community looks better overall and the lucky recipient ends up becoming a good will ambassador for your services. A win win for everybody.

Rick,

That is so frickin' cool. Myself and several signmakers in my town have been working with our Chamber of Commerce and City Development head to implement and encourage exactly that type of program.

At first, nobody thought we could improve the overall "look and feel" of our town, but little by little we're making some headway. The city and the chamber are actually working together to pull a budget together and process for how worthy recipients might be selected. The beautiful part is that we craftspeople are viewing each other as collaborators in making our town's signage better and not simply as competitors.

Excellent improvement Tim

What material did you use & is it painted or vinyl well done.

Thanks Craig,

We're just doing them as digital prints w/lam mounted on 1/2" MDO. I'd have liked to do the main text as separate raised letters, but there is an enormous event at the end of the month named SAVOR the Central Coast sponsored by Sunset magazine here, and they are itching to have me get the signs done before then. We have our router guy doing some other jobs now and between our work and all of his other work, he didn't think he could get the letters done in time.

As nice as John's entry is, my client wanted a Mission/Arts & Crafts era look as it fits with the area's architecture, so I did my best to give them what they wanted.
