Not always good to be the King.

Had to let a kid go today. Good kid, just wasn't really picking up on the routine. One of my least favorite things to do.

Head bathroom cleaner.
I have an idiot that needs to go. He is heading back to school soon but not soon enough. Hard to be an a-hole when I have known him since he was in diapers. I thought he quit the other day and just as I was about to have a "thank GOD he quit party" he called. Ohhh no he was just sick and his phone was dead.

Hiring a kid still in diapers sounds like a problem in your HR department.

It is difficult to let someone go when you have met their family and know they need the job.

I know that feeling .. I had it when i let my first employee go .. I was fortunate (yes and no) that my second guy had to quit after a few years because he was moving out of town .. After that well ... it's all about my own survival .. I don't have any problems now having to deal with that .. It's my shop .. My money .. and hey if it don't work out well .. i'm upfront and direct ... Most people understand and apreciate the honesty.

I say this to people when it needs saying ... I used to be a nice guy, then i started my own business .... :noway:

It will get easyer.

if you have a hard time letting employees go..let me know. I,m happy to do the dirty work. An emplyee is free to g at any time and search out other opportunities & you are free to let them go as needed for the health of your company.

I understand because once they last they become familly. I think about the company and the ones that do the work that I have to keep employed and their families. When I look at it that way, it makes me feel better.

I sometimes wonder if it is a good thing to keep your staff for more than a few years. Now I know that sounds hard but here is the deal,it is about survival and fact is they realise it as well. Something better comes up...they gone. I have lost many good employees and some not so good. But here is the deal...we always manage to find good people again.Another big problem is that they become expensive the longer they stay due to yearly increases.

I know this sounds harsh but fact is they use us for income and we use them for labour. It is supposed to be a win/win situation.

Saying this I might sound heartless, but I know Farmboy,it is a very hard thing to do.I still battle with it after nearly 20 years in business.

It always hard. You can have the biggest, dumbest oaf that can't do a blessed thing, but when you have to tell them they are no longer needed or up to your expectations.... it's tough to do.

If the person has done mean or deceitful things and you have proof, then I'm like 'Just Another Sign Guy'..... I'll kick 'em to the curb and into next week. To me, that's stealing. Purposely lousing things up or not doing their job while getting paid and blaming others or lying..... well, they'll get it with both barrels.
