I have a customer who owns a fleet of sprinter vehicles and caravans and offers wheelchair taxi services. All his vehicles are generally new, but he also hires drivers with their own vehicles which are usually &*%$ box old vans. Today I get a 2001 Sienna and as I am cleaning the doors I see that the paint looks dull and not like car paint at all.
I first start with doing a vehicle number and I apply it. remove the premask and I see silver paint on the mask.
I explain to the driver who is waiting, and a very nice man and a new Canadian as well that someone has repainted the doors using a spray bomb (probably him) and that I can't guarantee the lettering. He tells me he needs it on there or they won't allow him on the road. I understand his dilemma and proceed to put the company name on the doors. I also decided to wet the premask before removing to reduce the adhesion. There's no way this van can even go through a car wash. I did the other door and as I removed the premask the paint and the letters almost all came off. I had an extra set so I first put high tack pre mask down and then removed this layer of silver paint. I then proceed to put the lettering down and when I went to remove the mask, low and behold a second layer of paint was coming off revealing a light blue colour beneath.
What a butcher job, but he needs it to feed his family and I told him if they start falling off to come back and I would give him a very good deal for some magnetics to get him through the next month or so (says he has a new vehicle coming)
check out the pic of the second side when I removed wet premask...just WOW!!! had to use magnets on this job and no masking tape as it took the paint off as well
