Hey Jim. Nice Job. You and I are very much alike. You do what the client wants, and get paid. That's how we operate as well.
You can suggest as much as you want, but in the end you give the clients what they want. I bet they were very happy. It looks like the craftsmanship is excellent.

People here have no idea what the specs for the job were. I bet if you were able to take a pic of the entire wall it would work find. But since the picture is so close, it's going to look big for the space. I get it.

There is no Ego in business. The sooner people realize this, the sooner they'll make more money.

I would like to agree with this, and in the case of this sign, yeah,
you give the client what they want, have them sign off on the ADA
liability issue and move on...

But clients do not control building and zoning codes. I am going
through code hell where the client wants 8 monument signs for an
apartment complex... They got a variance without providing the
design or location. The variance was approved but the client now
finds out that the monument design and locations are not allowed.
If they took my advice, and designed and located the signs and
included that in the variance, there would be no issue.

By the way, the client built the signs before the signs were permitted
on the insistence of the apartment owner... the permits were rejected.

Customer ain't always right. It's not about ego. Occasionally experience
accounts for something.

By the way synergy_jim's remark that the sign is not along a pathway
is "logical"... and I think in theory he's correct. But some anal code
inspector or ADA scammer looking for a lawsuit may still take
issue with it. I deal with this a lot with large companies. They are
a target in California... thank goodness the biggest scammer was deported
but I'm sure another idiot will come along and start up again... again
this comes from experience.... not ego.

By the I practice that customer is right thing... but I cover my arse (and/or
leave it out of my portfolio. I had some architect tell me that she could stick
and ADA sign wherever she wanted... had her sign a paper that she was
responsible... she/client got their way.

Congratulations, checks in the bank are even more important when there are little ones to care for.

I have a photo somewhere of a gilded Gemini letters job I did for an old historic factory, they're twice the size I thought they should be...but so was the check.

Experience is very valuable Rick. You are right. That sign will have no issue with ADA. This is a whole different part of the game. Like you we deal with large scale customers. It's our job to figure out what's allowed and not allowed. We call this project management. We charge for this as should everyone. This case, in my opinion, is very different. At no point did i say the customer is always right. Giving them what they want, and saying it's always right is 2 very different things. We stay far, far, far away from anything monuments. I hate the time, and process. You quote a job in January, and it's installed by October, and that whole time you finance the job. If we don't do it inhouse we typically just turn it down. We're busy enough with what we have.

does not pay off for them... thank goodness I still make money
no matter who makes a bad decision.

The reality is - it may not be an issue.

The reality is - it may not be an issue.

That sucks. I hate anything LED and monument. I'll be the first to admit. I know very little about them, and the installation process that goes into it. We tried it back in 2009-2012. Way too much time, for not enough profit. It was the best thing we ever did. That 20 hrs a week i spent on surveys, back and forward with wholesale manufacturers, and the installers, and concrete guys, and Cities.. good grief. Never again., I now spend that time going after whale clients, and growing the business. I can't explain the growth in profits, and business we've had since then.
