online wraps

Customer comes in and ask how much I charge to wrap 2 sides and hood of a vehicle. I give him a large range since a lot of factors come into it. Then he says he already bought wrap. Paid $200 for both side panels and hood. Wants me to install. Told him I won't apply cheap material and get blamed for bad wrap. He ordered it from racinggraphics.com.

according to the website, it's printed on air release vinyl, but for the price he paid, i'm assuming it's a lower end calendered vinyl with air release, like Oracal 3165RA or something.

I would install it and let him know that you don't offer any warantee on graphics purchased elsewhere, he should be able to understand that.

Wait... He ordered dirt track graphics to go on a personal vehicle?

Yeah... Every race shop I know is using 3165RA. Which is fine for a Late Model that is going to have its quarter panel ripped off on the 3rd lap of the season... But for a regular vehicle? Eh.

I would make sure that something in writing is signed to the effect that the customer knows that there is no warranty on 3rd party products.

You would be surprised about the kind of crap that people around here would pull on stuff like that, claiming bad install/application.

It got so bad here, that I had actually had to have my retail customers sign a document to that effect when they brought me their own products to embroider. Most of the time it is the cheap, thin garments as well.

claiming his shop was the reason for it falling off to me is one excuse to say NO.
