Onyx ink usage issue

Hi, we recently got a new Epson s50670 with white ink. Ever since we got hooked up, in onyx when I rip a file, I get the ink usage calculations (which I know are only an estimate) but they show a calculation for each CMYKW. This would be fine but I'm only trying to print the Spot white. My file consists of only %40 white (file is setup correctly as per onyx) with no CMYK in the file. Now I know a bit of CMYK ink will be used to print the rainbow stripe but on a 4' x 5' print I'm using 13ml of white, but 20.9ml each CMYK.

Now my issue is, is onyx telling my printer that it is using this ink and depleting my ink cartridges? I haven't really had a chance to record the ink levels but will next time I print white which should be tomorrow, but I'm hoping that maybe someone knows a fix for this?

contone

Not at work, so I may not describe this 100% accurately. On our machine, when using a profile built using the "Contone" workflow - all inks show up as being used 100%. They're not actually being used AT 100%. But Onyx defaults to reporting 100% usage. We use the stochastic workflow and avoid the CT workflow alltogether. Unfortunately, it seems the majority of the profiles available utilize the contone dot.

The ink estimator has to be a joke....We do a ton of backlit prints on Illumisol for a customer. I ripped a file and go the ink usage, it came up with $0.51 per print...when I change the file to double strike printing, it still shows up at $0.51 per print......how does using twice as much ink, calculate to he same price.

I spoke with a vendor that has worked closely wih Onyx and Wasatch....when he asked Onyx bout the issue, they replied that it was a known issue, and would be worked on, and put in as a patch at a later date TBD
