Open dialogue box in XP

Bigdawg

I somehow changed my view so that when I open files using the open dialogue box in any program it is a list sorted by date instead of alphabetical like it's SUPPOSED to be. I have no idea what I did, so I have no idea how to fix...

Help?

I can do that every time when I open... I want it to go back to the default so I don't have to change to view--->details--->name everytime I want to open a file.

When you have that open dialogue box opened, right-click inside the box and choose "Arrange Icons By". Choose your preferred option from the pop-up.

You might have to open that folder you are accessing with the open dialouge box from outside of that program and then set that folder up the way you want the default view to be. That make any sense?

Nope... that didn't do it either... dammit. I obviously changed something, somehow, when opening up a file... it was working right on Thursday!! And it's every folder that does it... not just one or two.

Tried that too... I did this once a reallllly long time ago and can't remember how I fixed it... or what I did to cause it. VERY aggravating!

Open a common dialog box, change the view to the one you want, and then hit Ctrl/Cancel. Yes, it’s counterintuitive, but this solution is in Ed Bott’s book “Windows XP Inside and Out” and it works.
