Oracal 970ra High Gloss

Thought I'd share my experience with the high gloss version of this. I believe the high gloss is much thicker than the matte version, and has a stupendously aggressive adhesive. Aggressive to the point that it would leave adhesive where the vinyl had just barely been resting on the windshield.

We wrapped the roof of this 458 the night before, and these pictures are of what we found in the morning.

Anyone have similar experiences? Oracal was kind enough to refund us for the vinyl. We have since switched to 3M 1080 series.

are you saying it shrunk back like that after wrapping it? If so, looks like you stretched it way too far perhaps. Maybe I am missing something though?? Never used Oracal wrap films yet, I'm a 3M kinda guy, just finished a Matte black wrap yesterday.

is it possible the vehicle was waxed before hand? Looks like it just popped up.

We had stripped the wax off before hand. I know you are not supposed to stretch that vinyl much and that spot is pretty flat. The only place we stretched it a bit was way down at the bottom of the A-pillar because they did not want any seams. The bottoms of the pillars are about 65" apart. We even put primer along that channel.

We've done gloss 970RA and haven't yet had that issue. It does look like either something was on the paint, or perhaps it was stretched quite a bit (or both).

Do NOT use primer on Oracal vinyl. It will usually cause the adhesive to separate from the vinyl.

We use exclusively ORACAL for our wraps, and we never had this problem, most likely wax, or over stretched material. How do the replacement material work?

Alright, thanks for the feedback guys. I believe the high gloss finish they put on there causes some problems. It really feels twice as thick as other wrap films, even the regular 970. We tried it because the customer wanted the look of paint.

We replaced it with 1080 gloss. While not as "deep" as the 970, it still looks pretty good and we haven't had any issues of it puckering off like that.

So I don't know. Maybe it was my fault with installation.

P.S. I didn't get to drive that one, but I did get to drive a F430 fifty feet up the driveway lol

You didn't say if you used primer on the oracal but definitely looks stretched way too far without a postheat. If you heated that it would shrink way past the edge.
