outlook express problem

I have my main work station on win98 still as I am running signlab5 and not crazy how it works with win2000. For that reason alone I have not upgraded os in this computer. I have xp in all the others. My Outlook express has been acting up for months now and I can't figure out how to fix it. I can't delete emails anymore. First they would go into the deleted file, but then you couldn't delete them from there. I then made a new directory called trash, but I can't delete them from there either as they would go to the deleted file which will not accept anything now. The program may be corrupted but what options have I got. Should I switch over to firefox? If I do is it a seamless transition? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I finally retired my last win98 pc last winter. Main reason is i had a hard time updating anything on the pc ... Not much support for it anymore.

If you're using an old operating system like that still for your emails (meaning its connected online) then you're at a verry high risk of virus or spyware infections since i dont think you can update your anti virus or spyware programs anymore.

Time to go full XP i think.

I also vote for Thunderbird as an email client.

i agree with shovel on the switch to thunderbird i use it at home, but still use OE at work (mainly cause i'm using thunderbird at work to download my personal emails when i need to).....i did a couple searches on the topic...

one of the things that came up was that maybe the "deleted items" folder is corrupted...here's a link with instructions on how to try and solve the problem...
