Paint filled engraved brass

Drip Dry

New Member
Been trying to paint fill the letters (black) of engraved brass.
Seems easy, but it's really a pain. Been using regular paint, enamel paint, ink etc.
It doesn't seem to be durable. It easily flakes or scrapes off.

Can anyone enlighten me what to use and how to do it properly

we do it quite a bit, we use rustoleum gloss back rust paint, here is our process:

Infill letters using a business card to squeegee the paint into the letters and clean as much excess off as possible.
let dry overnight
in the morning, take an old phone book, pour some acetone or lacquer thinner over one of the pages of the book, give it a few seconds to soak in so there are no visible puddles of liquid
drag the plate face down over the page, only once
turn page
repeat untill plate is clean or pages need more liquid

it's pretty much the only thing we use the phone book for now around the shop.

I knew there must be a use for the phone book.

I'll give it a try

Thank you very much

Now, what did I do with that phone book... hope I didn't throw it away
