Painting Sintra?

SameDay Signs

I have a customer who just ordered a 5' x 9' sintra with a solid green back and white lettering on it though the problem being I had a brain **** and wasn't thinking we do not print 60" in house but only 54". I don't really want to print and piece together so I was wondering if sintra can be painted and then have white vinyl lettering stuck to it? The sign is a 6 month outdoor sign while a building is being put up.

Any help is appreciated.

not sure

not sure if you can paint but vinyl comes in 60" colour, maybe there is one close to the green colour you are looking for, apply green and than add lettering
just a thought

If it's truly only being used for 6 months, just about any paint should hold up under most conditions.

Or, you can just buy green sintra or just seam it. Again, for 6 months, who really is gonna care ?? You won't see a seam from 10 away, unless it was backlit.

Sintra paints great. Lightly sand with 220 to scuff the glossy surface and paint with a quality exterior latex.

Honestly, for temp sign, just seam a print. It's not worth the expense of the paint and the time to sand/paint.

we paint with mathews acrylic polyurethane, no primer necessary and actually not recommended unless it's an acrylic primer.
paints great and is our standard for use of sintra signage. especially for outdoor panels, as sunlight/weather turns uncoated sintra to a faded-white version of whatever color it came as and actualy makes it want to potato chip after a couple of seasons. i have signs that still look brand-new after years of wisconsin summer/winter's.

light sanding if you're paranoid there isn't enough "tooth", but the edges always have a rough-cut anyways so it's worthwhile giving it a solid rubdown with scotchbrite prior to painting.
don't try to over-paint it the first go-around. give it a solid dusting to begin your coverage, let dry for a few min, and then go back for a second coat. repeat for a third if you've still got some light spots, but just don't get carried-away or your panel will take forever to dry and may outgas & create bubbles from under your vinyl if applied too soon. I usually wait at least a day to dry, before I dare apply vinyl graphics.

How's it being mounted? Sintra would be way down on my list for materails for a 5x9 outdoor sign, even a temp one. I would suggest a banner first, then
a 10mm coro with print, and maybe green acm with white vinyl and I wouldn't worry about a seam.

I actually tried to get the customer to go with a banner or even max metal but he insisted on the sintra and is going to back
it with wood so as usual the customer is always right some how. I still don't want to seam it though because my client would not approve of it. Ow well thanks for the help guys and I will try to paint and if not I guess we will be printing it after all
